The Latest Ting
June 18th, 2008
Hey - the Ting Tings are over from Manchester to play a sold-out show at Bowery Ballroom tonight. They are my favorite band in the world at the moment and I’m super excited to see them in a small venue before they head out to play massive summer festivals like Glastonbury and Lollapalooza. I looove their music and Katie’s style is sick - her look is like a younger Kylie as styled by Topshop and Urban Outfitters for a Nylon magazine shoot. I love pop music and pop fashion and they are like a perfect storm of pop - but with the cool edge that the British do so well. x eddie

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for Topshop to finally open in New York! Coming in October to 478 Broadway in Manhattan, the four-story flagship will be the first U.S. Topshop location. Topshop owner Sir Philip Green told Women’s Wear Daily, “This is going to be Topshop in all its glory, identical. It’s not going to be Americanized. It will be London transferred to New York.” If you’ve ever been to the chain’s ginormous Oxford Street megastore in London, you’ll know this is good news. The entire cool environment of the Oxford Street location - the Topman men’s department, DJs, personal stylists, vintage, shoes, armies of mannequins, designer collaborations, delivery service - this will all be in play at the New York store as well. How cool is that?
I went to the recent press preview of the new store at Industria and got to see some pieces from the upcoming Fall 2008 collections. The women’s wear is broken down into four distinct categories - I especially liked some of the fashion goth pieces and shoes and also the pieces they are referring to as”Bandstand” - sort of a retro/40’s USO inspiration with sequined hot pants, cool officer’s caps, and a red, white, and blue palette. Check out some of my photos from the preview below. Also, I couldn’t help but notice that they had a huge wall of street style photos as part of the preview for no apparent reason. Perhaps all of the people in the shots were wearing Topshop - although they were presented as actual street style captures, not staged photos. Regardless of whether the shots were staged or not, it highlighted for me the increasing influence that street style is having on fashion these days. xo eddie
