Out Of The Closet

Hey – I was in L.A. for a bit before and after Sydney. While I was there, I shot a little interview with Karla from karlascloset! I made a stylesightingsTV Youtube channel today – more videos coming soon. I hope you guys like it! xx eddie

Castle Desert Mirage

Hi – I’m seeing this band play live later today. They are not playing in New York. I am not in New York. I am very excited. That’s all for now. Yours, Eddie

Embracing Paris

Morrissey – I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris

Hey – I’ve been having such an inspiring week here in Paris, as always. Of course there’s been inspiration galore on the runway. Inspiration though is a many-headed monster – it can come just as surely from a conversation with a stranger on the Metro, from a glimpse at a Polaroid-filled magazine at Kiliwatch, from the intricate lattice-work that makes up the base of the Eiffel Tower. All of this and much more has made its way across my radar this week. I’ve heard lots of great and inspiring music as well…the new Phoenix track “1901″ at Le Regine…”Marie’s the Name (His Latest Flame)” by Elvis Presley rocking the small dance floor at Le Montana last night at the Chanel party…the Y-3 DJ closing his set with “In The City” by Chromatics…Gary Numan’s “Cars” rocking the Chloe runway today…that new Yeah Yeah Yeahs track “Zero” that I’ve heard everywhere this week…I’ve been making mental and actual notes of all of this. Speaking of music, here’s my theme song for Paris this season – the brand new Morrissey single…enjoy. xx eddie

Going GaGa

Do you have any idea how much I love this woman?

(Let’s see…she’s from New York for starters…and rather than like winning a reality show, she actually got her start by playing loads of divey bars on the Lower East Side. Like the Scissor Sisters before her, she’s taken glammy, trashy New York club pop and generated a huge buzz in Europe – a buzz which has now bounced back to the States. She’s only 22 but regularly and sincerely name checks cool influences from well before her time – influences like Grace Jones and The Factory. Her sincerity is key. These aren’t names that have been spoon-fed to her for dropping into interviews – she’s living and breathing this stuff. Ask most 22-year-old pop stars who their influences are and see what sort of lame answers you get. Clearly this is not your mother’s Aguilera. She’s also really into fashion and loves underground darlings – and Stylesightings faves – like Gareth Pugh and Martin Margiela. Her music though is unapologetic POP, which I really love her for. She manages to make the mainstream more interesting while reminding the cool kids that it’s okay to dance. Forget the Gwen comparisons – she’s the new Madonna. xx eddie)

Roisin For Halloween

Hey – I’ve been doing Stylesightings for a little over a year now and October 2008 has been our best month ever in terms of the number of visitors to the site. Yay! To celebrate tonight, I’m kicking around the house (actually it’s a studio apartment but don’t tell anyone) and getting ready to head out to a couple of Halloween parties. I’m banging some new Lady Gaga tracks and this lady you see here who is my current music fave as well as my style icon of the moment – Roisin. I’m obsessed with the video above which is her busking with her band in Covent Garden, London. I can’t imagine being talented enough to just bust it out live and nearly a cappella like this – amazing! Also, I love the sly look on her face and her red coat and the little movements she does with her hands and arms and her backing vocalists look authentically retro not like some fake ass Mark Ronson shite and I told you I was obsessed. See the video below if you want to hear the studio version of this track. It’s prolly my favorite track on her record, although I seem to have a different favorite every week because it’s a great album. If you want to see my Roisin photos from the Dior show this season click here. I shot her at Marc Jacobs as well which is here. Happy Halloween…xxoo eddie

Paris s’enflamme

Can’t get this song out of my head the last couple of days so I thought I would share. I shot photos at the Chanel show earlier today…tonight I’m going out to the sure-to-be hot party that A.P.C. is throwing at the Paris hot spot Le Regine. The Teenagers will be playing live and Dan & Ewan from red hot label Trouble Records are DJing…”my heart is yearning but Paris is burning, Paris is burning all night long“…x

Press Play

After a bit of hype and the leaking of a couple of short teaser clips, Yelle has finally released her new video for “Ce Jeu”. Check it out! One of my favorite things about Yelle is how well she understands that being a pop star is not just about the music. It’s about the videos and the clothes and the dancing and the album artwork and even the hair. If you’re going to succeed these days you need to bring it on all fronts. Oh and it doesn’t hurt to wear a french fry bracelet either. – x eddie

The Latest Ting

tingtings.jpgHey – the Ting Tings are over from Manchester to play a sold-out show at Bowery Ballroom tonight. They are my favorite band in the world at the moment and I’m super excited to see them in a small venue before they head out to play massive summer festivals like Glastonbury and Lollapalooza. I looove their music and Katie’s style is sick – her look is like a younger Kylie as styled by Topshop and Urban Outfitters for a Nylon magazine shoot. I love pop music and pop fashion and they are like a perfect storm of pop – but with the cool edge that the British do so well. x eddie

Legends Of The Fall

I’m guessing this was her “fall” collection…

Tracks Of The Year (so far…)

This spring and summer you’ll be hearing “Lights & Music” by Cut/Copy and “Blind” by Hercules and Love Affair everywhere – from a rooftop party in Brooklyn, to a basement on the Lower East Side, from a pool party during Coachella, to a terrace in Ibiza. If you’re going to Miami Winter Music Conference later this month, forget about it – get ready to hear these tracks at every cool party. They are both hands-in-the-air warm weather anthems (although “Blind” has a nice moody undercurrent), and you should get to know them now so you can beat the rush to the dance floor at that first outdoor party. x Eddie
