While my daily urban uniform tends to lean towards black and grey (accessorized with daring bits of charcoal), I do appreciate and notice when I see bits of bright color thrown into the mix. Things like translucent
neon green eyeglasses, a
hot pink shopping tote,
chartreuse headphones, and chipped
electric orange nail polish…popping against winter’s monochromatic veil. Photos that I shot today in New York…xoxo Eddie

Hey, guess what’s even cooler than a
headband? The chic girls who wear them, that’s what. Do you see these girls?! I mean, do you see them?! They actually walk around like this, they stand on sidewalks like this, they lean against walls and smolder like this. There were no stylists or fashion editors involved here - everyday is an editorial shoot for girls like this. All of these photos are from the massive worldwide database at
Stylesight, and all were shot on the streets of
New York recently - most within the past week. I love the one (far right) that says “Colombia” - she said she bought it at her local cheap-o/99 cent store. (They had one that said “Mexico” as well.) James (top, center photo), is sporting an amazing improvised headband made from a vintage necklace - small white ceramic beads that she had wrapped double. The effect is both strikingly modern and vintage/20’s flapper all in one look. My favorite however is probably the simple double bit of black elastic cord (top, left) - chicly understated yet bang-on-trend adventurous. I love to see girls being girls like this…the magpies of the Lower East Side. More please…

Always a big fan of high meeting low, I’m loving the colorful leather gloves I’m noticing on certain chic and streetwise girls this winter. They add a nice but understated (i.e. cool) jolt of color to an otherwise monochromatic urban uniform. My favorite ones appear to be thin, butter-soft Italian leather - ladylike and classic design paired with punky color is what you’re after here. The thinness is key - even a hint of bulk will ruin this look and make it appear as if you have dressed for warmth rather than fashion. I found the photos above while looking through recent streetstyle photos on Stylesight. My favorites are probably the lipstick red ones paired with a faded denim jacket and a charcoal grey dress (shot recently by one of our London-based photographers), but the fingerless blue ones paired with a pearl bracelet are the best example of prep meeting punk.

We always think of the contemporary art world as a source of inspiration here at Stylesight - so we were pleased but not surprised when quite a few designers decided to work contemporary art touches into their collections for Spring 2008. Modern art influences on RTW in the recent past seem to have fallen into a few predictable categories - graffiti and Pop Art influences ad nauseam. For Spring ‘08 however, the art world influences were both far more varied and incorporated in a more seamless fashion. See below for some of my favorite pieces that I found while looking at all of the runway photos on Stylesight.
I thought the Prada collection was a great example of how to use an art influence in a seamless and romantic fashion. The two dresses above combine the feel of trippy, 70’s Ralph Bakshi animation with a romantic Art Nouveau Toulouse-Lautrec illustration.

I love the bags that Marc Jacobs and illustrator/photographer Richard Prince collaborated on for Louis Vuitton.
