Hey - you’re never going to believe this but there was lots of stuff going on in New York last night! Crazy, huh? I grabbed Vi and Catherine and we got things poppin’ early by checking out the opening of Ryan McGinley’s new show at Team Gallery in Soho. The show - entitled I Know Where The Summer Goes - is McGinley’s take on retro 70’s naturist photography. There was a massive crowd inside the gallery as well as out in the street but somehow Michael Stipe, John Waters, Aggy Deyn, Terry Richardson, A-Ron the Downtown Don, and Leigh and Greg MisShapes all managed to push their way through and check out the photos. x eddie

Well, denizens of the blogosphere, this is good-bye for now. As of today I’m hanging my boots up and retiring from the disco floor here at Stylesightings. I’ve decided to cut loose from the Internet/New York for a while to try my luck in beautiful New Haven, Connecticut, where the Mainsqueeze has set up shop in order to attend grad school. The proverbial torch is being passed to the lovely Eddie Newton, one of New York’s most talented DJs and street-style photographers. Eddie is super-nice and will be a more-than-adequate replacement for this here blogger, so keep reading! Thank you so much for helping Stylesightings grow; it’s been a pleasure getting to know so many of you talented ladies and gents, and I’m sure we’ll meet again here on the Internets.
Love, Ashley Churchill
Helloooooo everyone! Well, as sad as I am to see the lovely and charming Ashley Churchill leave this fashionable realm, I couldn’t be more thrilled about being your new guide! (Seriously Ashley, you rock…and while I don’t usually make a habit of giving shout outs, I think I’ll make an exception in this case – Holla!)
First off, a bit about myself – Manhattan resident for the past 9 years but am originally from North Carolina. In New York, I interned for the Beastie Boys press agency (yes that was me answering the phone, “Hello, Nasty…”), produced fashion photo shoots for a couple of years (vague memories of renting a vintage Rolls-Royce for a Steven Meisel shoot for Vanity Fair), found myself DJing fashion events and runway shows for clients both edgy and mainstream, did music programming for the Tribeca Grand Hotel during the height of electroclash (Hi Miss Kittin! Hi Karl Lagerfeld!), took lots and lots of photos, and basically ran all over this wonderful city and others in search of the fun and fashionable. This constant search for the fun and fashionable is really what this blog is all about. Now I’ll be sharing my discoveries and photos and obsessions with you – and I hope you will do the same with me.
x - Eddie

Some of my favorite quotes from today’s Women’s Wear Daily interview with Marc Jacobs, concerning the furor over the now-infamous two-hour wait, accusations of his chillaxing at the Mercer Hotel instead of preparing, and his hinting at moving all Marc Jacobs shows out of New York:
“I’m responding to what was written in Women’s Wear, all those people saying ‘We have families,’ ‘We have families,’ ‘We have families.’ Talk to my sample room. Talk to the 60 women who didn’t see their families for six weeks.”
“I don’t really feel a part of the American fashion community. I really feel like an outsider, I think we all do, and we feel unloved here, so we want to go somewhere else.”
“I don’t take vacations, I don’t have homes all over the world, I don’t ride horses: I f—ing work for a living. Again, this idea, you have a family? OK, well that’s nice, I don’t, and I work. So leave me alone and don’t come to the show next time.”
Conclusions: Marc Jacobs needs a hug. And a vacation. And a family. He also needs to send me the following pieces from the Marc by Marc collection, which made me want to cut my clothes asymmetrically, take a trip on a jet-plane and play with Legos, all at the same time.

I told myself I wouldn’t talk about it, that it had already been analyzed to death, but I simply can’t help myself: I have a serious need to get the Marc Jacobs show out of my system before I explode. The editrixes here at Stylesight can’t stop talking about it and I’m still reeling from the whole ordeal: the two-hour wait, the backwards presentation, the Japanese feel of it all and the amazing palette. I’ve come to one conclusion amidst all this hoopla: I absolutely love it. New York Fashion Week isn’t known for innovation, and when you get down to it Marc Jacobs deserves a gigantic hug (I’m happy to volunteer) for at least doing something interesting and different with his show, because that’s what it is: a show! Speaking of shows, Fashion Week is over today, and I’m just about to head out and snap the last of my street pics, so if you’re looking good say hello and smile big!

If anything, the backwards presentation makes sense! Show ‘em everything quickly, get the crowd excited and then let them savor each look one by one.

Who knew dish-gloves could look so fashionable!

As with any Marc show, it was all about the shoes and the bags for me. Oh god I love those heels!

The midriff and lower back made special appearances throughout the show, without looking early ‘90s.

Maybe these hats are what called Comme des Garcons to mind for me.

So simple, yet so perfect. I would wear this like whoa.

And now I’m re-thinking my entire idea of bras being meant for innerwear only…

But my stance on quasi-sporty number dresses still stands: bad bad bad.
