With everything floral print being red-hot for Spring/Summer ‘08…and with Liberty of London having already plastered flowers on everything from scarves to tea cosies over the years…I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised…but floral print shoes?! There are female sneaker heads out there though - and I’m sure some of you guys are already salivating over these Nike Dunks that are the result of a collaboration between Nike and Liberty. I sort of think that the gum rubber soles make them a bit fugly - but a cool British girl rocking them with say pale grey or black tights, a black dress, and one of the new fedoras by Stetson could likely change my mind. They are actually punk rock due to their complete lack of punk rockness. They are available starting this Saturday, May 10th at Opening Ceremony in New York and L.A. so don’t sleep. - x eddie

Hey - so I was just reading this article about how the current economic downturn in the U.S. is expected to cause loads of young people to start shopping at thrift stores. I’m not so sure about this article’s logic. For one thing, some thrift chains like Goodwill have recently “gotten wise” to the allure of vintage and now charge much higher prices than previous - so the savings can sometimes be minimal. For another thing, all the cool kids I know already sweat vintage - and have been doing so for ages. For example - check out the dress Valissa wore when we went out to Morrissey night at Sway last night. A friend bought it recently at a thrift store in Texas and gave it to her. She shortened it and cut off “big, poofy sleeves”, paired it with Klein blue tights and shoes that would-be-jazz-oxfords-but-they-have-heels, and voila - cuteness! - x eddie

I was disturbed to find out that
F-Troupe doesn’t make their new coated canvas jazz oxfords in men’s sizes…but if you’re a girl you have no excuse not to add these to your Spring wardrobe posthaste. They will look way cute paired with your vintage (or vintage-inspired) floral dresses. Sporting these with skinny jeans, a sleeveless plaid or floral top, and geek glasses would also be a real warm weather world-rocker. They’re surprisingly inexpensive too but somewhat hard to locate…
here is one place where you can buy them online. x Eddie

How cool are these Ksubi jeans with a guitar print by Jeremy Scott? I snapped this photo of a model wearing them during the recent Paris collections and have been a bit obsessed with them since. I’m a huge fan of Ksubi and Jeremy and this is my favorite collaboration of theirs to date - adding a bit of edge to this spring/summer staple. Coming soon to a cool girl near you…x eddie

Hey - yesterday’s
Wall Street Journal column on
how to pronounce fashion names gave me such a laugh that I had to pass it on to you guys. Anyone who has ever accidentally bumped into
Hedi Slimane (Edi Sli-mahn) and torn their
Ann Demeulemeester (Ahn Duh-moo-lah-MEE-ster) jacket while racing to catch the
Thakoon (Ta-koon) show will surely be able to relate. The best bit - look for the sidebar where you can play audio clips of
WSJ fashion reporter Christina Passariello pronouncing the names correctly. It’s like a Berlitz course taught by Derek Zoolander! For kicks, try it the way I did - hover your cursor over the “play audio” button…pronounce the designer/label name the way you think is correct…then play the clip. One key to correct pronunciation is not being afraid to use the correct lilt - some fashion names require a certain Euro affectation that can feel seriously pretentious. The upside - certain fashion names, when pronounced correctly, are really fun to say. I dare you not to smile while saying
Bulgari (BOOL-ga-ree) or
Ungaro (OON-ga-ro)…xo Eddie
