So I’m back in New York shooting some new street style photos to share with you guys. Before we get to that though, I wanted to post these photos from my last day in Stockholm. I was in Stockholm for Fashion Week by Berns…and often when a fashion week has ended I feel the need to do something much quieter. If I happen to be in a city with a famous old cemetery (like Pere Lachaise in Paris), I will often spend my day off wandering around it. Going out shopping or going somewhere busy for lunch or whatever still feels too much like I’m still in the midst of things. What’s quieter than a cemetery, right? Plus the grand old ones just look cool – I get my fix of visual stimulation for the day without the crowds and chaos. Stockholm has a knockout old cemetery known as Skogskyrkogarden. The UNESCO World Heritage-listed site should definitely not be missed if you happen to be in town. Don’t expect ornate or gothic monuments – the Swedes in death as in life don’t really like to stand out or be ostentatious. The thing to see here are the unbelievably beautiful grounds…enormous pine and birch trees with the graves scattered among them…soft Scandinavian sunlight on snow covered fields…the famous functionalist buildings – especially the crematorium. Plus you really get the feeling that you’ve made a day trip to the Swedish countryside (and gotten a good taste of what Scandinavia actually looks and feels like), yet it’s only a few minutes from center city via metro. I think winter is the best time to visit as the snow definitely contributed to the already hushed and surreal forest atmosphere. Come check it out while you can…I hear people are dying to get in. xx eddie
