Viva Las Vegoose

This past weekend I was in the middle of doing my laundry when I thought, “Ugh, what I really would rather be doing is flying to Las Vegas and seeing Daft Punk play in the desert as part of the 2007 Vegoose Festival.” So I jumped in a taxi and headed to the airport and did just that! (I already had clean clothes with me after all, so really there was no need to pack.) Wow, this was Daft Punk’s last U.S. show for the year and they really brought the heat – and umm…wow, Las Vegas is weird…and lots of fun too. But weird.
The festival itself was a blast – though the crowd was cooler on Saturday when Daft headlined than it was for Sunday’s Rage Against the Machine lecture…err, I mean performance. It’s clear that the Vegoose organizers have studied the much-lauded Coachella festival closely – the look, the set-up, the feel, the overall vibe at the festival was a dead ringer for Coachella. (The warm weather and gorgeous natural setting at Vegoose were quite Coachella-esque as well.) The only thing that kept me from thinking I was actually at Coachella was that the line-up at Vegoose overall could not match Coachella’s stellar music programming. This fact didn’t stop loads of cool kids from coming out however, as evidenced by my photos below.
