Five For Fighting: Tori Amos

Tori Amos would like you to meet the ladies who live in her head. Santa, Clyde, Isabel and Pip are the fashion-conscious (and presumably wealthy) alter-egos featured on her upcoming politically charged American Doll Posse disc, which drops stateside May 1st. Based on Greek goddesses and each with her own individual style, favorite designer and life story, the ladies (including Tori herself) sing around five songs each on the album. On tour, which kicks off May 28th in Rome, the first one-third of each show will feature one of the four personas, with Tori (as herself) taking the stage for the remainder of the show. It’s not the first time Amos has gone all Cindy Sherman on us, (2001’s Strange Little Girls also featured Amos in a variety of looks) but it’s certainly the most intense. Does it work? Tori Amos has long been a supporter of up and coming designers, and she has an incredible eye for style. Combined with a rabid fan base in love with dramatically fascinating antics such as this (each alter-ago even has a “secret” blog) I can’t see this concept not working out for everyone’s favorite red-haired piano pounder. Click on “more” for a guide to the ladies of the American Doll Posse, complete with pics from the alter-ego driven folks at Stylesight (check the exact Unconditional dress Pip sports on the album cover!).
