The Big 5-0: Chanel Shoes Turn Fifty
April 19th, 2007
“Chanel is composed of only a few elements: white camellias, quilted bags and Austrian doorman’s jackets, pearls, chains, shoes with black toes. I use these elements like notes to play with,” said the always glorious/bizarre Karl Lagerfeld, who’s been head of the iconic house for about as long as I’ve been on this planet. It’s those black toed shoes I’m dreaming of today (althought I certainly wouldn’t refuse a quilted bag or some pearls) as April 19th marks fifty years since Coco Chanel introduced her two-tone footwear.

To celebrate, Chanel has re-released the original black and tan shoe (which you probably can’t afford) and also featured two tone shoes in a variety of colors and styles as part of their 2007 Fall/Winter collection (which you also probably can’t afford). But don’t despair, bébés! Coco Chanel once said that “A woman with good shoes is never ugly,” and she was (no shock) entirely correct. So allow me to present four two-tone styles that will allow you to channel Chanel, without having to rob a bank or ruin your credit or something else equally self-destructive.
