I’m not a TV person by any stretch of the imagination, but my fabulous friend/neighbor/co-worker Alex somehow managed to turn me into a rabid fan of Bravo’s Top Design, to the point where I actually plan my Wednesday nights around it (something I haven’t done since the early 90s when ABC’s TGIF lineup was cool). What’s the draw here, really? Is it the catty fights between interior designers? The increasingly strange outfits judge Kelly Wearstler is somehow able to pull off? My unhealthy and lifelong obsession with housewares? No. I keep tuning in for one reason: Jonathan Adler. He’s perfect, from his mixed prints down to his elegant potter’s hands. Witty, charming and well-mannered, Jonathan Adler is an inspiration to us all, the realization of what humans can be. His website is full of life-affirming treats, such as the company Manifesto (”We believe colors can’t clash. We believe tassels are the earrings of the home.”) and his delightful bio (”2000: Opens store number two in East Hampton. Spends inappropriate amount of time at the beach.”) Oh, and he makes everything your Dream House could ever need, from needlepoint pillows and scented candles to upholstered headboards and lacquer furniture.
