menswear monday: at the movies with galliano

John Galliano wants you to know how crazy he is. To help you understand the depths of his artistic madness, the Dior head designer has gone through the trouble of making a two minute 59 second, silent, black and white movie with the express purpose of parodying himself, the crazy designer. Made for SHOWstudio, Le Mauvais Garcon promises to “let us in on how he really makes his fashions.” The bad boy of fashion doesn’t exactly take us through his creative process in this short work (meant to mimic old archived footage using cigarette burns and jaundiced film) but he does allow us a peek inside his atelier. It’s thrilling to see John Galliano’s empty coffee-cups, sketchbooks and workspace (yes, he’s that brilliant), even if one has to suffer through the mustachioed, staged histrionics of the actual film.
