sit and stay: hedi slimane

Hedi Slimane’s home must be absolutely amazing. When I visit it in my dreams (I literally have and it was a serious letdown to wake up in my messy Brooklyn apartment), it’s a giant warehouse-y space, minimally furnished in his signature black and white, totally functional and completely stylish. Proof? The Dior Homme creative head’s latest gift to the world is the interestingly named F System (short for Furniture System) Project: handmade, limited edition pieces of that just scream “Hedi made me!” with their stark beauty and slightly off-kilter sensibility. (And yes, like most of Slimane’s designs, they’re skinny.) Available at six-story work of art Dover Street Market in London (the brainchild of Comme des Garcons’ Rei Kawakubo), these ebony and steel creations could be chairs, or chair-tables, or whatever you need, as you can plainly see. I’m in love love love with these pictures I found on Slimane’s minimalist website, a barefoot, little boy looking Hedi (don’t you just want to toussel his hair?) draped comfortably across the pieces, as if that’s exactly the way they’re meant to be used.

I’d also like to take a minute to send a general shout out to Monsieur Slimane (I love this job!) because really, what doesn’t this tiny, wonderful man do? He designs conversation provoking furniture, takes beautiful black and white photos (check his newest ones with a mostly topless Courtney Love), shows in galleries around the world, dabbles in set design, keeps a “Rock Diary,” lends a hand to magazines such as Purple and Vogue, does video installations and (seemingly on the side) designs some of the most innovative and influential menswear on the planet. Need your ego taken down a notch or two? Just remember that out there somewhere, Hedi Slimane is very busy epitomizing cool.
